ODOR PAYS; Intro to Imprinting Target Odor for Scent Detection

This beginner level workshop is for you whether you are training for fun and enrichment purposes or to successfully begin training in the sport of Scent Detection.
Included in this workshop is 60 minutes in person training at the Callander Canine Centre to set you up for success, Your first Scent Odor Vessel and 12 weeks of access to the on-line classroom

During the in-person session, you will get your first scent vessel to take home and we will begin Imprinting your dog directly onto the scent of Wintergreen essential oil used in Scent Detection organizations. We will also begin playing some of the many training games to set your dog up for success. By the end of the session your dog will be able to distinguish which containers are the hot containers (ones with scent) and which ones are cold (empty).

The on-line lessons portion consist of written material as well as instructional videos on;

  • Marking the behavior, feeding at source and proper training mechanics

  • Preparing, organizing and proper storage of your odor

  • The importance of your scent vessels. 

  • Suitable containers for Selection searches

  • Introduction to 14 imprinting training games

  • Building value for odor

  • Developing the desire to search out odor

  • How to set up your Hunting and Selection searches

Have you ever wanted to try Scent Detection with your dog?
Dogs experience a world of smells that we barely perceive.  Teaching your dog to search for and indicate the presence of a particular odor provides mental stimulation in a low pressure setting by tapping into their interest in the world of scent. Whether you want to enter Scent Trials with various organizations or just enjoy a fun activity that builds bonds and enriches lives, The Noses Knows classes will help you and your dog reach your goals.

Intro To Scent
Dogs will be started directly onto the Wintergreen scent which will be provided to you in a training scent vessel for you to take home at the first class.  
Topics covered include: developing a dog's desire to find odor, introduction to scent behavior, setting level appropriate search puzzles and developing a handler's ability to read their dog's body language while searching.

Interiors
Dogs in this class will focus on continuing to develop interior searching skills with more challenging hides and multiple hides using Wintergreen and Pine. Distractions and a variety of different containers types will be introduced.
